DNS Made Easy, the industry leader for speed and reliability, has launched a new initiative that seeks to educate IT professionals and site owners on the risks of using a domain registrar’s DNS hosting services.

In the past, DNS Made Easy has pushed initiatives seeking to increase redundancy for hosting services, like a secondary DNS hosting provider. This was met with increased adoption of Secondary DNS services across multiple industries.

The new initiative strives to build upon the idea of redundancy by separating domain services across multiple providers. Those who have yet to do so are putting themselves at increased risk for longer load times and even total site unavailability. This issue is affecting more users due to many registrars offering DNS hosting services for free with domain registration or at a reduced price.

“We have found that many of the clients that use their registrar’s hosting services are unaware of the risks… let alone how easy it is to outsource their DNS to a specialized provider,” says President of DNS Made Easy Steven Job.

The DNS Made Easy research team conducted a survey of clients who had previously used their registrar’s DNS hosting services. The study found that there were two main reasons why clients had decided to use their services: affordability and the ease of only having to remember one account. Over 65% were unaware of the risks associated with single homing hosting and registration.

The same study also found the nearly 40% of clients that had come from a free DNS hosting service had left due to service disruption in the past year. These disruptions had increase load times and in some cases made their domain completely inaccessible.

The first part of the initiative seeks to educate clients about the top three advantages of using multiple providers: security, ease of transfer, and more advanced functionality. The full article is available on the DNS Made Easy corporate blog.
